World Kindness Week!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…World Kindness Week! World Kindness Week started when several humanitarian groups came together on November 13, 1997, and made a Declaration of Kindness. What started as World Kindness Day turned into World Kindness Week, where everyone is encouraged to make a similar declaration of kindness and charity.

I was so excited to learn about this movement because it speaks right to my heart! We should be kind each and every day, but I love that there is a week dedicated to encouraging kindness even more.

All week my goal was to bring awareness to simple acts of kindness that make a huge impact. Through the use of social media, I encouraged people of all ages to perform acts of kindness. I gave examples each day and shared what I was doing in my community. Here are the things I did this week:

Day 1: I handed out little cards that said “You are awesome” to random people. This made so many people smile! I told each person they could keep the card or pass it on.

Day 2: I made a thank you card for our police department. I delivered it and cookies to them to say thank you for their service. They were so grateful and it made me smile too!

Day 3: I left new tennis balls at our local dog park with a note explaining that they were a random act of kindness. I’m sure the dog and owner that found them smiled and had a great time playing!

Day 4: Our grocery store stopped giving out single use plastic bags. My mom and I left a reusable grocery bag in a cart with a note for someone who might have forgotten theirs.

Day 5: I visited our local Little Free Library and donated children’s books for others to enjoy. I love reading and hope that another kid can enjoy these books as much as I did!

Day 6: My mom and I went back to a different grocery store and purchased a gift card at the register. I found a random stranger in line waiting to buy groceries and I gave them the gift card. At first the woman was confused. You can tell that most people aren’t used to a stranger doing something kind. Once she understood what I was doing she was so happy! I hope this made her day and she was motivated to do something kind for someone else!

Overall, I think World Kindness Week 2022 was a HUGE success! Although I cannot wait until next year, you don’t have to wait for a special week to be kind!
